Marty loved art and things of beauty.
This is one of his favorite Japanese woodblock prints. When we moved to Irvington, one of the first things he did was hang this picture. He said that it made the house feel like home.
Today, while I was scanning the print, I noted that it dates from 1860; this is the exact same year that our house was built.
It makes me smile to think of this Japanese family lounging on their pier. It reminds me of the way that Marty and I would often sit together by the Hudson River.
It is pleasant to imagine that he has slipped into the floating world and is enjoying a cup of saki on a warm summer night.
Pictures from Marty's Memorial Service
November 1, 2008
It was a beautiful, clear day.
Family and friends gathered on the shore of the Hudson River to say goodbye.
Marty had Myeloma, cancer of the blood. He was receiving treatment for his illness. The cause of death was cardiac arrest.
